Text Updates

What’s changing about how we get texts?

We’re going to be using a new texting platform to update members more efficiently. This won’t replace texts from your Organizer, just give you more up to date information about what’s happening in your union community.

How are we getting texts now?

Currently, members receive text updates from (720) 634-8165, our Peer-to-Peer number. This means after messages are sent out to everyone, Organizers reply to each response manually. This can cause delays in you getting the info you need, especially when the volume of responses is high.

Why are we using a second number for updates?

Our new platform is broadcast texting, so you can respond with specific keywords and get automatic responses with the info you need. This eliminates the need for Organizers to reply to each text individually, speeding up response time.

This leaves more time to respond to abnormal responses that come through text, like requests for representation, help connecting with Organizers, etc. You’ll still be able to get an individual response if you need help.

What’s new about the second update number?

Updates from 787753 will supplement Peer-to-Peer by streamlining important updates. Rather than waiting for Organizers to respond to hundreds of members at once, most ‘yes’ or ‘no’ responses will receive an automatic reply with the information you need.

Does this mean I’ll only get texts from robots?

This won’t replace Peer-to-Peer communication for local updates in your workplace. Organizers will still send messages from (720) 634-8165 about smaller-scale events, actions, and updates. This will clear up the Peer-to-Peer number for more in-depth conversations between you and your Organizer.

How will the two numbers be used?

Big updates for your department, union district, and the whole union will come through as a broadcast from 787753. Local updates for your worksite or particular groups will be sent by your Organizer from (720) 634-8165.

I’ve tried to contact (720) 634-8165, why didn’t I get a response?

Occasionally, this Peer-to-Peer number can cause some confusion. Because our Peer-to-Peer number is not a standard number, it does not accept calls. Similarly, because this number is not connected to a specific device, Organizers may not be notified if a member texts the number at a later date after a campaign has ended.

How do I speak to someone directly?

If you need to speak with someone on the phone, call the COWINS office at (719) 545-0677.

Haven't been receiving union texts?

If you haven't been receiving texts from your union, it's possible our database doesn't have your cell phone number. You can update your contact info anytime to start receiving communications about your union! Update your information here.
