In a recent press release from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Safety which sought to update the public on a new case of monkeypox in Colorado, officials stated that “men who have sex with men” are at higher risk. This is a misleading phrase that may guide the public to believe this disease may only be spread between gay men.
Black, white, and Brown, state employees in every department deserve to go to work in a job that values our safety, has predictable working hours, and be treated with respect.
This weekend we were devastated by the news of a gunman who deliberately sought outand killed 10 Black people shopping for themselves and their families at their local market. As public employees in Colorado, where a similar incident in a grocery store just recently happened, we will not stand for this.

The decision of when and if to become a parent is one of the most important many of us will make in our lives. It impacts our ability to pay our bills, continue our education or career, and even take care of ourselves and our families. All of us–no matter where we live, what we look like, or what we do–deserve to be able to make the healthcare choices for ourselves and our families based on accurate, unbiased information, and access to healthcare that fits ours and our families’ needs.

Today, Senators Toomey and Bennet introduced the State and Local Corrections Officer Retirement Fairness Act of 2022 to require the federal tax code to treat state and local corrections officers the same as their federal counterparts by providing an exemption from a federal tax penalty imposed on early withdrawals from qualified retirement accounts.

Denver, CO – Today, Governor Jared Polis, bill sponsors, the Colorado Black Democratic Legislative Caucus, and advocates held a press conference to highlight and celebrate the introduction of [SB22-139](https://leg.colorado.gov/bills/sb22-139), legislation recognizing Juneteenth as the eleventh state holiday in Colorado. The bill is sponsored by Sen. James Coleman and Janet Buckner, and Rep. Leslie Herod, and was introduced in the Senate on February 24.
