This weekend we were devastated by the news of a gunman who deliberately sought outand killed 10 Black people shopping for themselves and their families at their local market. As public employees in Colorado, where a similar incident in a grocery store just recently happened, we will not stand for this.
The decision of when and if to become a parent is one of the most important many of us will make in our lives. It impacts our ability to pay our bills, continue our education or career, and even take care of ourselves and our families. All of us–no matter where we live, what we look like, or what we do–deserve to be able to make the healthcare choices for ourselves and our families based on accurate, unbiased information, and access to healthcare that fits ours and our families’ needs.
Today, Senators Toomey and Bennet introduced the State and Local Corrections Officer Retirement Fairness Act of 2022 to require the federal tax code to treat state and local corrections officers the same as their federal counterparts by providing an exemption from a federal tax penalty imposed on early withdrawals from qualified retirement accounts.

The bill is sponsored by Sen. James Coleman and Janet Buckner, and Rep. Leslie Herod, and was introduced in the Senate on February 24.

On November 18th Colorado state employees celebrated the momentous raises they won this year for tens of thousands of Colorado’s underpaid essential workers. State employees and Governor Polis signed their ground-breaking first contract today, which state employees voted overwhelmingly to ratify with a 99% vote yes.
State employees and homecare providers won these raises against the backdrop of the most significant change the United States has seen in jobs and the labor market in decades.
