Everyone keeps asking what the federal government shutdown means for Colorado.

But the real story is that harm we see now is just a preview of what’s to come. 

This White House has fired and pushed out hundreds of thousands of federal workers, ended ACA subsidies, and dismantled federal programs like Medicaid. All of that is going to decimate our state budget and really hurt all Coloradans, not just in the coming weeks and months, but for years to come.

State workers are already grappling with a hiring freeze and staff shortages. And now, as we try to fill the void left by federal cuts, I worry we’re once again going to be asked to do more with less.

We need to make our voices heard. Coloradans need lower prices, not higher medical bills. We need to stop giving billionaires all the breaks. And state workers need to speak out against attacks on all public sector workers.
