Colorado WINS members packing legislative hearing room at capitol

Buckle up. The feds have passed a budget bill that has dire consequences for Colorado, forcing the state legislature into a special session–expected in August–to talk about budget cuts.

We need to get ready now if we are going to save our pay increases and stop the inevitable push for layoffs and furloughs.

State workers know we can’t do even more with even less. We’re already grappling with a 20 percent vacancy rate across departments, working double and triple shifts, and doing the jobs of more than one person. That’s hurting state workers and the services Coloradans rely on.

So we all need to come together now to make our union stronger. We can do that by growing our numbers, which means signing up your coworkers today.

We can also do that by getting Coloradans–the people we serve–on our side. That means making sure they understand we can’t keep cutting the critical work we do to keep the state running and to keep them safe.

Over the next few weeks, we’re sending a photo journalist out into workplaces to document the work you do. We’ll use those visuals to spread the word on social media, and on our new website launching in the fall.

By growing our numbers and building public support we can build the power we need to stop cuts to jobs, pay, and services, and propose concrete alternatives that support all Coloradans.
