I am happy to be able to share some positive news at what I know has been a difficult few days for so many state employees.

On Friday, our Executive Board met to accept Skip Miller’s resignation as COWINS President and to wish him well in his retirement and as he works to regain his health.

Per our constitution, our Executive Board also chose new leadership, and I am pleased to announce that Diane Byrne, our previous District 5 Chair, is the new Union President of Colorado WINS.

Please join me in congratulating Diane!

I also want to congratulate our former District 8 Chair, Brian Hines, on his retirement. Two of our previous District Vice Chairs are moving to fill the seats Diane and Brian are leaving. Welcome Maddie Cappa and Krista Bernard as our new Chairs for Districts 5 and 8 respectively.

It’s you, our members, who make our union strong. But as we’ve seen over the last twelve years with Skip Miller as our President, strong leadership is also vital.

This is especially true as we navigate the challenges we’re faced with now, like the state budget deficit and threats to federally funded positions and programs.

We knew going into our Executive meeting that we had gigantic shoes to fill, but we emerged confident that our union, with these new leaders and you, our members, has what it takes to win.
