Our endorsed candidates won their primaries.

This year, more than ever before, COWINS demonstrated that we have the power to change what happens in elections!
COWINS members and staff showed up, big time, volunteering for almost 200 shifts and knocking on around 15,000 doors, in addition to making calls and sending texts.
Candidates cannot simply expect our endorsement — they must earn it. State workers led this process.
That work made a BIG difference in primary races where the fight was against massive dark money backers for our endorsees’ opponents, delivering wins for WINS Member Kenny Nguyen (HD33), Iris Halpern (HD6), Chela Garcia Irlando (SD34), Jamie Jackson (HD41), Manny Rutinel (CD8), Jena Griswold (Attorney General), and WINS Member Allen Medina (Pueblo Sheriff).
Having a solid Attorney General in office will mean better interpretation of our contracts from the state’s side. Meanwhile, the state legislators we’ve helped to elect will hear us when we bring funding for our raises to the legislature next year.
And, if we can help Manny Rutinel flip his CD8 seat in November, we will be helping to flip the House in Congress so we can better fight cuts to Medicaid and other programs that state workers support!
Congratulations to our union-endorsed candidates on their primary victories! And congratulations to all of us, because these candidates are the ones who have pledged to support our contracts and fight for working people and not the corporations who spent millions to beat them.
As public service workers, we know the best how much dedication it takes to serve Coloradans and do it well! When we win, we win for ALL Coloradans.

Allen Medina is a Colorado WINS member who works in Parole for the Colorado Department of Corrections.
If elected in November, Allen will be the first ever WINS member to serve as Pueblo County Sheriff!
Kenny Nguyen is a former employee of the Colorado Department of Revenue, and continues to pay dues as an associate member of Colorado WINS.
We’re determined to keep a WINS member in the House, and will be on the streets in support of Kenny’s campaign in November!

Having our endorsed candidate–Jena Griswold–serving as Attorney General, is going to mean we have a staunch ally when it comes to enforcing our contract. This win will be critical to protecting member rights.
In addition to Kenny Nguyen, two more of our endorsed candidates for the Colorado State House of Representatives — Iris Halpern and Jamie Jackson — also won their primaries!

Colorado WINS members showed up in force in Northglenn to canvass in support of Democratic primary candidate for Senate District 34, Chela Garcia Irlando.
Now that she’s won her primary, we’re ready to support her in November, too!
Whether it means showing up to a picket line or fighting to expand union rights across our state, Manny has been a staunch ally to working families and our communities.
When it comes to building stronger unions and facing the affordability crisis head-on, we know we can count on him to be our champion in Congress.

These victories show what’s possible when working people organize together and fight for a Colorado where workers come before billionaires and corporate special interests.
On to November!
