Join us for two union action training sessions on Tuesday, March 17.
COWINS Senior Organizer Konner Pemberton will host a Contract Action Team Training on how to support our bargaining teams and win stronger contracts that lead to better lives for all of us, at work and at home.
Join us to learn how we build our power in Colorado by winning people over on our priorities. This is a highly recommended learning opportunity for anyone who wants hands-on training on how to credibly and persuasively talk about what we're fighting for.
Join us between 5 and 6pm to register in-person, pick up your Lobby Day kits, then stay for dinner and mingling with members and leaders from both Colorado WINS and our sister union SEIU Local 105. We'll break bread together and then hear about each others' priorities for this legislative session. You'll also meet your Lobby Captain and learn exactly what to expect at Lobby Day!
Join us on Wednesday, March 18 for Lobby Day! We’ll park and gather for a quick breakfast back at the Justice for All Center before getting on buses to drive to the Capitol.
We’ll spend all morning talking with legislators about why they should support our legislative priorities and then we’ll gather at the First Baptist Church for lunch and to debrief, before getting on the buses to take us back to our cars.
Unfortunately you cannot wear anything bearing political slogans or our logo: that means no COWINS buttons, hoodies, and t-shirts. We encourage you to dress as you would for work, or business casual.
We need everyone to stick together and arrive at the Capitol at the same time: keeping everyone together makes things much easier on our staff and Lobby Captains, and frankly, for you too. Plus, It is much easier (and free!) to park at the Justice for All Center and take the bus with us. Second, we will not be reimbursing parking costs.
Yes! If you are a Union Steward, you can use Union Leave to attend the trainings during the day on March 17.
No. You cannot use Union Leave for political activity which includes lobbying.
We encourage you to attend one of our trainings (virtual or on the 17th) but it is especially important for you to join us on the evening of the 17th from 5 to 8pm: this is where you'll register, pick up your kits, meet your Lobby Captain, and find out exactly what to expect on Lobby Day, as well as have the opportunity to meet and enjoy a meal with fellow union members.
Yes! Please do remember to bring your state employee badge with you to the Capitol for Lobby Day. It will allow you to bypass security and get into the Capitol much more quickly!
This year’s state budget deficit means we need a show of force on Lobby Day. Last year we had more than 100 descend on the Capitol: this year we need to show even more strength in numbers so we can protect funding for this July’s pay raises and other benefits in our Partnership Agreement.
